Forum: etree Subject: Strange suffix on new identifier

I'm uploading a YMSB recording from the weekend, and filled in "ymsb", "2009-09-06", and "superlux.flac16" in the fields to create the identifier, and something strange has happened. First, I think I did it twice, once on the initial "Upload" page, and again on the "Share" page, at the bottom of it, below each of the files, after clicking on the "Is this a Live Music Archive item?" link.

I now have _two_ tasks being processed. The first is

http://www.archive.org/details/ymsb2009-06-28.superlux.flac16

which seems to be based on what I filled in the first time, but the second

http://www.archive.org/details/ymsb2009-06-28.superlux.flac16_938

has a weird "_938" tacked on the end. The big snag is that it's the second identifier's task that's doing the deriving, with the first identifier's task still in the "checkedout" state.

My guess is that the "_938" task will complete, and live on as a downloadable recording, which is fine with me, even with the "_938" suffix (though I would like to know what caused it), but I'm not sure what'll happen to the first identifier. Ideally, I'd like it if the first identifier could just be given to the second item, i.e., rename the second identifier to not include the "_938" suffix. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

Brad, I've seen this too; I think it has to do with the ajax logic when tabbing through those form fields. I've found that if you tab into the "extension" field and then tab OUT of it, you're ok, but if you tab in and then click the "update item" button (or whatever it is), sometimes that extra extension sticks on there by accident.

Can you go here to checkin the .flac16 version of it? Then I can rename them both. I'm afraid that if I cancel checkout on the intended identifier we'll lose it because that happens sometimes if I force things.

When that's done I'll do some hocus-pocus on it...

Thanks for the quick response. I clicked on the check-in link you gave, and it went into "Not ready yet. Waiting 10 seconds for checkin..." a bunch of times, finishing with "You may now see your updated item at:" and giving me

http://www.archive.org/details/ymsb2009-06-28.superlux.flac16

Do I need to click on that? (I wouldn't think so, if all that's going to happen is a switch of identifiers.)

Again, thanks!

Aloha,
Brad

Nope, don't need to click on anything. I just needed you to check it in so that an xml file would be created that I could then modify to reflect a new identifier. So the old ymsb2009-06-28.superlux.flac16 is now ymsb2009-06-28.superlux.flac16_bad, and the old ymsb2009-06-28.superlux.flac16_938 is now ymsb2009-06-28.superlux.flac16. Should be fixed now!
